Lately:
I’ve been sharing a FOTD (like OOTD - outfit of the day, but instead: Focus of the Day) over on Instagram in my Stories, and it’s been really a powerful practice for me to pay attention to the small act of choosing a daily focus.
Some that I’ve covered:
consistency
maintenance
congruence
music as a tool for noticing
At the end of the year (how is it already December?), I’m putting up a static 9-12 post grid on my main Instagram account, which means I will no longer be posting on the feed. I’m excited to put all of my Instagram focus solely on Stories, which is where I most love to engage. If you’re not following me on Instagram yet, I’d love to see you over there!
As I focus on Instagram Stories, it will also provide some ability to focus on LinkedIn - same thing goes, if we’re not already connected there, please consider following along: LinkedIn
Listening to:
(this is a beautiful song!):
Nothin’ is what I need
Everything is already here for me
The most important things in life are mutual and free
I believe that in my final hour
All the discounts and judgements won’t matter
And I’ll be left with the investment that I made on my life
And the people along with me for the ride
It’s easy to buy things
It’s easy to say things
It’s easy to wish for things but it’s hard to abide by the hard work
I know it takes me to recognize that I am already good inside
So for humanity’s sake
Whatever you do
Do it a lot and never stop
Believe in yourself no matter what
And when you’re at the top
Enjoy the view
Dear every single person, ever
I think I love you

“Tending to yourself does not fly in the face of liberation, and in fact, tending to yourself is deeply revolutionary. Tending to yourself is literally what liberation is about. And so, whatever, wherever you're at, in your life, in your career, take one step today to take better care of your mental, emotional, psychological, physical well being, that is one step towards liberation. Choose a new step every day.” -Louiza “Weeze” Doran, on Leaving Well ←link to listen
“Leaving well means moving forward while remembering. Because I think that we have this idea of leaving, and that somehow that gets synonymous with forgetting. We're leaving, and so we have to leave something in the past, and we have to move forward. But that's not what leaving well means. Time trudges forward whether we want it to or not, right? But when you leave well... you're remembering what happened in the past, and you're carrying that forward with you.” -Kelly Cervantes, on Leaving Well ←link to listen

Word of the Year
As December is upon us, it’s time for me to prepare to reflect on my Word of the Year for 2023. I've been choosing a WOY since 2012. Previous words?
2012 - Rediscover
2013 - Expand
2014 - Hone
2015 - Fierce
2016 - Focus
2017 - Disrupt
2018 - Onlyness, w a side note of grace
2019 - Sophrosyne
2020 -Tend
2021 - Resonant
2022 - Cultivate)
The word for this year has been entelechy (with 'accountability and courage' as supporting words), and it was such a joy to re-read my writing about my intention for entelechy, and notice just how many of my wishes and desires have embedded as routine and reality for me now.
Read it: Entelechy: a 2022 review and a Wish for 2023
Once I’ve finished my 2023 reflection, I’ll choose the word for 2024 (or perhaps, it will choose me). I have a page in my everything journal with some of the words that have been jumping out at me so far.
I'd love to know if you use this practice, and what your word for 2023 has been!
I’m finding so many of us are giving up posting on the feed and instead posting on stories. I’m excited to see what word finds you in 2024!
